A Sustainable World Starts with Smarter Materials

Why Materials Matter for Sustainability
From batteries to solar panels, the environmental impact of products begins with the materials they’re made from. Sustainable products start with the choice of sustainable materials.
Choosing the right materials early in the R&D process can significantly reduce emissions, chemical waste, and compliance risks. That’s why sustainable innovation starts at the atomic level – with informed material choices.
With the ExoMatter Platform, teams can identify low-emission, high-performance materials – faster, smarter, and without trial and error.

ExoMatter: Sustainable Enabler for R&D Teams
ExoMatter’s platform empowers R&D teams to evaluate and select materials with sustainability in mind. A comprehensive search allows scientists to screen for high-performance materials while looking for a low CO₂ footprint, excluding toxic elements or avoiding rare earth elements. This enables R&D teams to balance performance, cost and sustainability and avoid trade-offs.
With ExoMatter, R&D teams can:
Discover
materials with low CO₂ emissions
Exclude
toxic elements from the screening process
Avoid
rare earth elements in the screening process
How Industry Leaders Innovate with ExoMatter
Success Story
How Carbyon Identified 90 Innovative Materials With ExoMattter
Carbyon develops equipment to filter CO2 from the air, to be stored underground or converted it into alternatives to fossil fuel-based products. The team was determined to make their process for direct air capture of CO2 more energy-efficient and asked for ExoMatter’s support in identifying inorganic materials with an energy demand below a certain limit.
With ExoMatter, 90 new materials candidates were identified, saving Carbyon 6-12 months of laboratory work. Some of the identified materials had an energy demand 6-7 times lower than the defined maximum value.

Reduce Chemical Waste, Improve Efficiency
ExoMatter not only helps to develop sustainable products. It also makes the work of the laboratory & R&D team itself more sustainable.
By enabling virtual material screening, ExoMatter helps teams reduce the need for physical experiments – minimizing chemical waste and improving lab efficiency.
This not only saves time and resources but actively contributes to greener R&D processes.
